On Friday, we spent nearly the entire class time discussing the importance of Dr. Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement of the 1960s. It has been 40 years since the death of Dr. King, and about 45 years since spoke to the nation about his dream. So, in 2008 can we say that Dr. King's dream has become a reality? What evidence do we have today that his dream has come true? Or, do we have further to go to reach that dream? If you don't feel his dream has come true yet, what do you think still needs to be done? Can we do anything to help the relationship between blacks and whites improve?
Remember, I want to know what you think and feel. I'm not looking for memorized answers or for you to tell me what you learned from the video. I am providing links to both of the speeches that we discussed and to the video that we watched. I encourage you to watch and listen. In fact, encourage your parents and siblings to watch and listen with you. It's important to always reflect on holidays that celebrate those that have sacrificed their lives to make our world a better place.

His dream has become a reality. Whites and blacks no longer have to go to different schools, no longer have to drink from different water fountains, and blacks are no longer whites slaves. All I can say about helping to go further with his dream is that what happened is in the past, there is no one in this time period that had to do with this affair, if a white person is mad at a black person, or if a black person is mad at a white person about slavery, they are just simply holding a grudge against what our ancestors have done before us. They have to know that it is not our fault that black people were slaves, and it is not our fault that white people had to be such jerks about it.
(I am sorry if this offended anyone in any way!)
i defiently think his dream has come true!!!!
it used to be that whites and blacks could not go to the same school oruse the same water fountion. now a lot of whites and blacks are like best friends!!!
now a lot of teachers are black and everyone is fine with it, it used to be that if a black teacher applied for a position they would get laughed at. i am very glad that he fixed things because a lot of blacks are really nice!
Sarah- I defiantly think his dream has come true. Blacks and Whites can go the same school, the same stores, same places, and also be good friends. I’m very happy that we can interact together. Now we all are treated equally. I know a lot of black people who are very nice and funny.
:)
i think dr.martin luther king jr's dream was so great having peace and harmony in the world without conflict i know there was some but but it simmered down when he said please be calm with one another or something like that it stopped totally after the assasanation of the king he was a great leader and will always be an inspiration to this generation his speech was so moving it is so powerful it makes you want to just be good to the next person you see i just hope most people feel the same way about it it's a great thing i just love this speech and wha tit does to you

His dream was to make sure no one was racist anymore and that nobody would have to suffer. His dream was also that everyone can drink out of the water and use the same bathrooms.

I also agree with casey, jarrett, and halie
His dream has come true and i think it should stay that way because we are not separted anymore and blacks and whites need to be treated equal and not different just because of their skin color! it just its really dumb how that was reinforeced a while ago it should have been made a big deal we are all equal and i have friends that are different colored and it doesn't affect them in anyway. What Martin Luther King Jr. did was very good and it proved that we are all equal no matter what color we are!
I also agree with everyone on here.
i meant to say IT SHOULND'T
sorry typo!!!
